Mobile operator O2 UK has announced the first successful live trial of next generation Long Term Evolution (LTE) Mobile Broadband technology in the Slough area.

A peak cell download speed of 150Mbps was measured during the trial, although future 4G generations of LTE could reach 1Gbps.

The final service, which is due to start its rollout towards the end of 2010, could deliver peak downlink speeds of up to 340Mbps. This is likely to be much lower however with the bandwidth being shared between many users.
