Given the wide coverage we've highlighted some of the salient points of the recent Digital Britain report: -

• The UK is to have a Universal Service Commitment of 2Mbps (2 Megabits per second) by 2012
• No minimum upstream speed or latency requirements have been outlined in the report
• A 50p per month levy to be imposed on all fixed copper lines
• Fund to invest in next generation broadband
• Ofcom to get powers to reduce illegal file sharing in the UK
